The Middle School STEM Teacher is responsible for designing, implementing, and assessing a rigorous STEM curriculum for students in grades 6-8. In addition to classroom instruction, the STEM Teacher will serve as a lead instructional coach, assisting fellow educators in integrating technology and STEM methodologies across all content areas. The goal is to foster a standards-based, data-driven environment that prepares students for high school rigor through hands-on, inquiry-based learning.Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe STEM teacher acts as the lead technical expert, managing and teaching the following:
Curriculum Frameworks: Strong familiarity with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Archdiocese of Omaha standards
Inquiry-Based Learning: Facilitate project-based learning experiences that challenge students to apply the engineering design process to complex, real-world problems.
Robotics & Physical Computing: Mastery of Vex Robotics (IQ/V5), Microbits, and the transition from block-based to text-based coding.
Digital Fabrication: Proficiency in 3D Printing and CAD software (e.g., Tinkercad or Onshape), leading students through the full design-to-prototype cycle.
Digital Literacy: Expert use of Google for Education, Chromebooks, and iPads as professional tools for research and presentation.
Instructional Coaching: Serve as a collaborative resource for fellow teachers, helping them integrate STEM components into their own subject areas (Math, Social Studies, etc.).
Assessment: Implement a robust, data-driven assessment framework that evaluates student mastery of Archdiocesan and NGSS standards while measuring growth in essential competencies such as iterative problem-solving and collaborative design.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, or a related technical field.
Valid NE Teaching Certificate with Middle School Endorsement
Safe Environment Certified
