Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Plan and deliver dynamic, standards-aligned Religion instruction for 6th–8th grade that reflects the four pillars of the Catechism: Creed, Sacraments, Christian Living, and Prayer.
Develop and implement short- and long-range curriculum maps, scope and sequence, and unit plans aligned to the Archdiocese of Omaha Religion standards and middle school essential standards.
Lead students to explore the presence of the Trinity and recognize the presence of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit through Scripture, doctrine, and lived experience.
Teach students to understand the Sacraments as the life-giving powers of Christ, integrating liturgical seasons, sacramental preparation, and participation in school Masses and prayer services.
Form students in Christian Living by helping them demonstrate principles of Christian living,model faith in words and actions,” make moral decisions consistent with Church teachings, and examine vocations as God’s call.
Cultivate a strong classroom prayer life through personal and communal prayer experiences, including traditional prayers and devotions of the Church.
Teach, model, and reinforce required prayers and practices (e.g., Sign of the Cross, Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary, Act of Contrition, Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, Ten Commandments, Sacraments, Stations of the Cross, Rosary/Mysteries, Precepts of the Church, Theological and Cardinal Virtues, Order of the Mass, Benediction).
Use a variety of instructional strategies (Scripture study, discussion, reflection/journaling, role-play, small-group and project-based learning, service-learning, and interdisciplinary connections) to build deep understanding, faith integration, and application.
Embed 21st-century skills and the 5 Cs—creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, cooperation, and communication—into Religion lessons and classroom activities in age-appropriate ways.​

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Deep knowledge of Catholic theology and doctrine, especially in the areas of Creed, Sacraments, Morality, and Prayer, appropriate to middle school learners.
Active commitment to and personal witness of the Catholic faith, with the ability to serve as a practicing Catholic role model for students and families.
Strong understanding of adolescent faith and human development and the unique spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents.
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.​
Ability to manage student behavior, foster positive relationships with adolescents and families, and build a classroom community rooted in Gospel values.​
Flexibility and ability to work effectively with students at various developmental and achievement levels in faith and academics.​
Proficiency with educational technology, including learning management systems and digital tools, to support instruction, reflection, and parent communication.

Education and Experience
State teaching certification (or eligibility) in the appropriate grade/subject area.​
Relevant Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education with a concentration in Theology/Religious Education or a closely related field.​
Active, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, with a demonstrated commitment to ongoing faith formation and participation in parish life.
