Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and deliver dynamic, standards-aligned, research-based math instruction for 6th–8th grade, including HMH Into Math and accelerated courses.Develop and implement short- and long-range curriculum maps, scope and sequence, and unit plans aligned to Archdiocese of Omaha standards.
Use a variety of instructional strategies (gradual release, problem-based, inquiry-based, small-group, and interdisciplinary methods) to build deep understanding and application.
Integrate daily opportunities for mathematical discourse and expression through journaling, reflections, exit tickets, and written problem-solving justifications.
Embed 21st-century skills and the 5 Cs—creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, cooperation, and communication—into lessons and classroom activities.
Maintain a respectful, productive, and safe classroom environment, using effective management and engagement strategies consistent with school guidelines.
Design and use varied assessments (projects, quizzes, tests, performance tasks) and provide timely, constructive feedback while accurately reporting student progress.
Differentiate instruction and supports to meet diverse learning needs, including students with special needs and those requiring enrichment or acceleration.
Collaborate with grade-level teams, administration, and support staff on curriculum, school initiatives, and student support plans.
Communicate consistently with parents/guardians about student strengths, needs, and progress, and engage in ongoing professional development to refine instructional practices and integrate best practices into teaching.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesDeep knowledge of middle school mathematics, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and accelerated pathways..
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Ability to inspire students confidence, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage student behavior and foster positive relationships with adolescents and families.
Flexibility and ability to work effectively with students at various developmental and achievement levels.
Proficiency with educational technology, including learning management systems and digital instructional tools.
Education and Experience
State teaching certification (or eligibility) in appropriate grade/subject area.
Relevant Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education with a concentration in Mathematics or a closely related field.
