Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Position Summary: As a member of the Religious Education team, the Confirmation Coordinator oversees and implements a comprehensive faith formation program that prepares eighth grade youth enrolled in both the school and Religious Education programs for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This role will support the parish youths’ preparation for Confirmation through faith formation, service, and spiritual retreats, in line with diocesan policies and the pastoral vision. This role also includes additional assistance with Religious Education-sponsored events including but not limited to retreats, meetings, sacraments, and Vacation Bible School.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Plan and coordinate Confirmation Masses and sacrament rehearsals in collaboration with the archdiocese, our pastor, the DRE, and liturgy coordinator.
· Monitor and facilitate Confirmation students’ fulfillment of sacramental requirements including student Retreats, Service Hours, Sponsor selection, and Confirmation Saint selection.
o Communicate a variety of service opportunities, both within the parish as well as in the community
o Plan and execute a Confirmation retreat for students
o Plan and execute a retreat for candidates with their sponsors
o Communicate information reminders about dates, deadlines and requirements to teachers, catechists, students and families, through emails and handouts.
o Monitor and document fulfillment of student requirements through online form submissions
· Enhance the spiritual growth of eighth graders by assisting in the implementation of the Confirmation curriculum.
o Serve as the eighth grade “Grade Level Coordinator” of the Religious Education program, including preparation of weekly lesson plans and supplies for catechists, and offering weekly support for volunteers during and outside of classes.
o In collaboration with the SSM school administration, support eighth grade schoolteachers with necessary Confirmation materials inside and outs
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesEssential Skills:
• Background in and/or knowledge of the Catholic Church and her sacraments with a demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Church and full assent to all magisterial teaching.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Exemplary organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and requests
• Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers to ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned administrative tasks.
• Availability during weekly RE classes as well as some evening and weekend events
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
Education and Experience
Required Education and Experience:
• Must have a high school diploma.
• Experience in religious education strongly preferred
• Experience in parish/diocesan ministry strongly preferred
Hours of Work:
This position will be expected to work approximately 20 hours per week, give or take a few hours depending on the season. He/she will be expected to be present for the 7 hours of Tuesday and Wednesday RE class sessions, as well as at sacramental liturgies and special events. The additional hours are flexible and may be agreed upon weekly by both the employee and the Director.
