Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Offer expert guidance and advocacy in immigration cases, including consultations, case assessments, and legal filings.
• Prepare and file applications, petitions, and supporting documents for clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Represent clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), and other relevant government entities.
• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, motions, and briefs to support client cases.
• Maintain high ethical standards and compliance throughout all casework.• Serve as the go-to legal authority for the Immigration Department, guiding DOJ-accredited representatives and legal staff.
• Develop and implement training and professional development for the team, fostering growth and accreditation success.
• Lead community outreach initiatives and presentations on immigration law, raising awareness and educating the public.
• Stay current on evolving immigration laws, policies, and procedures, ensuring the program delivers top-tier legal services.


Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Use case management software to maintain accurate client records, case notes, and data.
• Oversee compliance with Catholic Charities’ program policies, funder requirements, and agency standards.
• Collaborate with leadership on grant reporting and program evaluations.

Education and Experience
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in any U.S. state (Nebraska licensure is a plus, but not required).
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in immigration law or demonstrated expertise in immigration advocacy.
• Exceptional legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
• Deep commitment to cultural competency and serving vulnerable populations.
• Proven track record of effective teamwork and leadership in a legal setting.
• Fluency in Spanish is required to meet the needs of our client community.
