Description
Department: The Stewardship and Development Director plays a key leadership role in advancing the mission of St. Matthew Catholic Parish by overseeing and implementing comprehensive fundraising and development efforts. This position focuses on fostering relationships with parishioners, benefactors, and the broader community to secure the financial resources needed to support the parish’s ministries, programs, and facilities. The Development Director works closely with the pastor, school principal, staff, and volunteers to promote a culture of stewardship and philanthropy within St. Matthew’s community.Reports to: Fr. Principal Duties and Responsibilities
FUNDRAISING STRATEGY AND IMPLEMENTATION-Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan, including major gifts, planned giving, St. Matthew’s Annual Appeal, the Archbishop’s Appeal, capital campaigns, SCRIP program and other initiatives; Collaborate with the pastor and principal and other key leaders to establish both short (annual) and long (3-5 year) range goals and objectives for each fundraising effort, and set annual development budget; Work with leadership teams to help organize, promote, and support parish and school fundraising events such as the Cardinal Event, golf tournament, and trivia night; Coordinate the parish’s offertory program and other stewardship activities.
DONOR RELATIONS AND STEWARDSHIP
-Cultivate relationships with current and prospective donors, including parishioners, alumni, and community benefactors; Acknowledge gifts in a timely and meaningful manner and ensure donors are regularly informed of the impact of their contributions.
COMMUNICATION AND MARKETING
-Collaborate with parish staff to create compelling communication materials such as newsletters, brochures, and online content to promote giving opportunities; Provide content for the parish website, bulletin, and social media platforms to share stories of impact and encourage community support.
GRANT WRITING AND MANAGEMENT
-Identify grant opportunities and prepare grant applications to secure funding from foundations and other organizations; Manage grant reporting requirements to ensure compliance with donor guidelines.
VOLUNTEER COORDINATION
-Recruit and train volunteers to assist with fundraising activities and events; Provide guidance and leadership to volunteer committees supporting development efforts.
DATABASE AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
-Maintain accurate records of donations and donor information using the parish database system; Provide regular reports on fundraising progress to the Pastor, School Principal, and Finance Council.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesSKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
• Strong understanding of Catholic values, parish life, and school operations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse audiences.
• Proven experience in fundraising, donor cultivation, and relationship management.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in donor management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and online fundraising platforms.
• Ability to work collaboratively with parish and school staff, volunteers, and other parish organization leaders.
Education and Experience
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or a related role (experience in a parish or nonprofit setting preferred).
• Knowledge of and commitment to the teachings, mission, and organizational structure of the Catholic Church.
• Practicing Catholic who is an active member of a Catholic parish.
• Safe Environment certified through the Archdiocese of Omaha or the ability to obtain certification.
• Valid driver’s license.
