Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Person in the position of Director of Music Ministry will lead the music program for the parish, helping the parish community to pray by supporting liturgies with vibrant and inspirational music.Responsibilities:
Plan and plays music for all Weekend liturgies, Holy Day liturgies, School masses, Funeral Masses, special liturgies (including but not limited to: Confirmation, First Holy Communion), and other parish events (including but not limited to: retreats, school graduation) as needed.
Scheduling, directing, rehearsing choirs and volunteer musicians.
Introduces new music and encourages congregational participation.
Create presentations for Masses using the projection capabilities of the Church.
File and maintain music records.
Coordinate music ministry bulletin communications.
Cooperates with the liturgical music programs of the Archdiocese (including but not limited to: Rite of Election, Deacon Ordination, Priest Ordination) as needed.
Works with the school Music Teacher on selecting the music for school Masses and children’s choir.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesPosition Specifications/Requirements:
Must have a high degree of proficiency in the use of musical instruments to lead the congregation.
Be able to read music and have suitable vocal skills.
Candidates should be passionate about the Church’s liturgical tradition as well as today’s current practice.
Should possess a working knowledge of other instruments used in liturgical music.
Must have skill as an effective choir conductor.
Must have the ability and desire to lead and sustain a program of congregational singing.
Must have good knowledge of quality repertoire available for liturgical music programs for adult and children’s choir, organ, piano and congregation.
This position requires experience in parish liturgical music programs.
Regular weekend, evening & office work hours required. Along with the regular parish liturgical schedule, musicians are required to provide music for additional services during Holy Week, sacramental celebrations, weddings, and funerals.
Education and Experience
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in music or 5 years related experience
Strong familiarity and comfort with Roman Catholic liturgy
Ability to perform and lead both contemporary and traditional style of music using a varied selection of music that would be considered Catholic based songs as well as contemporary Christian sources
Solo performance experience
