Principal Duties and Responsibilities

MOQ School seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades K-8th, helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments and listening. The music teacher will also perform other duties directly related to this job description.

Successful candidates must be strong musicians and educators, possess the ability to instruct and engage all students through active music making, capable of integrating a variety of classroom instruments including ukulele and guitar, knowledge and willingness to direct and facilitate multiple programs throughout the year, display a strong desire to collaborate with colleagues, utilize various forms of technology, and positively contribute to our school culture.

The Music Teacher is responsible for producing a minimum of two programs throughout the year including a Christmas and Ppring production. Programs should showcase students’ musical ability and growth while promoting leadership skills.


Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Skills:
-Ability to work with students at all skill levels
-Instrumental skills or willingness to learn and teach ukulele, guitar and recorder.
-Being able to accompany on piano is preferred but not required.
-Set measurable, ambitious, and attainable goals for the year and each interim assessment cycle
-Develop and implement daily lesson plans as part of a long-term scope and sequence aligned to the curricular goals of MOQ and Omaha Archdiocese standards
-Regularly incorporate the use of instruments in class including xylophones, recorder, ukuleles and guitars.
-Conduct interim assessments, track student progress, and perform regular data analysis to determine student mastery and diagnose areas of conceptual misunderstanding
-Employ a variety of creative, differentiated, and research-based instructional strategies that ensure students are actively engaged in meaningful and rigorous learning experience
-Provide grade appropriate extended or enrichment opportunities
-Effectively integrate technology use into instruction

-Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines that align to school-wide values and policies
-Recognize, celebrate and reward student achievement and character development

Personal Effectiveness:
-Continually improve teaching skills by seeking out constructive feedback and professional development opportunities
-Use an effective system for tracking student mastery of curricular objectives for each unit throughout the school year
-Maintain accurate and complete records, including but not limited to: attendance, behavior, student achievement data, grades, progress reports, parent communication, textbooks, etc

Education and Experience
NE Teacher Certification
Minimum BA in Music or Music Education
Practicing Catholic preferred but not required
