POSITION TITLE: Instrumental Music Teacher
DEPARTMENT: Catholic Schools Office, Music in Catholic Schools
REPORTS TO: Music in Catholic Schools Director
CLASSIFICATION: Regular, Full-Time or Part-Time
HOURS PER WEEK: Up to 40
POSITION SUMMARY
This teacher position provides instrumental music teaching services in schools participating in Music in Catholic Schools (MCS), Archdiocese of Omaha.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Teach instrumental music, using sound and effective educational methods.
• Work and collaborate with MCS staff to update, revise, and implement MCS curriculum.
• Assist in planning overall MCS activities, as well as planning individual MCS activities.
• Maintain student progress and attendance records; complete individual student assessments at least twice per school year to communicate student progress to parents.
• Maintain music and instrument library and assist with library inventory.
• Maintain proper classroom management and best teaching practices for student growth.
• Supervise students during MCS events, activities, and class time.
• Prepare for and participate in school events, such as open houses and curriculum nights, when appropriate.
• Identify educational needs of students and attend to those specific needs with individualized teaching strategies.
• Provide regular progress reports to supervisor and communicate with parents when needed.
• Overall daily band class schedules and activity schedules are arranged by MCS Coordinator.
• Activities include School Open Houses, Band Nights, Honor Band auditions, Honor Band rehearsals, Beginning Band Olympics, Honor Band concerts, Combined Schools Concerts, NSBA 8th Grade All State Band, Solo/Ensemble Festival, and Band Clinic, MCS Staff In-service and meetings.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of traditional and modern theory and techniques required to compose, produce, and perform works of music.
• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and teaching design, instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of teaching effects.
• Selecting and using instructional methods and procedures appropriate for specific situations.
• Monitoring and assessing of self and student performance to make improvements.
• Motivating, encouraging, and directing others toward educational goals.
• Ability to explain musical concepts in multiple ways and using multiple methods.
• Ability to arrange things in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., musical scores).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Background in and/or knowledge of the Catholic Church with a demonstrated commitment to the mission and teachings of the Church.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, Instrumental Music emphasis.
• Nebraska Teaching Certificate, endorsement in music.
• Safe Environment Training certificate must be obtained before school year begins.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
5%; MCS daily teaching schedule (from school to school) and for special events
