POSITION TITLE: Accounting and Auditing Intern
DEPARTMENT: Finance
REPORTS TO: Controller
EFFECTIVE DATE: February 20, 2023
CLASSIFICATION: Temporary, Part-Time, Non-Exempt
HOURS PER WEEK: 20-40 (Flexible Schedule – can be either Part-time or Full-Time)
POSITION SUMMARY
Intern will assist in planning, implementing, and executing recurring and one-time projects in the Finance Office. Intern will also assist with the regular parish/school financial review process and may assist with on-site audits.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Auditing
• Conduct online preliminary audit checks for parishes and schools.
• Using QuickBooks, analyze financial reports and transactions for trends, accounting issues, and other relevant items when on-site.
• Assist with remote and on-site audit field work, including reviewing accounts payable and receivable; asset accounts; payroll and tax reporting; internal controls and cash handling procedures.
Financial Analysis
• Perform in-depth financial analysis for parish/school capital project and loan requests.
• Assist with analysis of parish/school budgets.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Background in and/or knowledge of the Catholic Church with a demonstrated commitment to the mission and teachings of the Church.
• Knowledge of economic and nonprofit accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
• Committed to ongoing training and professional development; regularly explores methods to improve quality and efficiency of work.
• Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work tasks.
• Adheres to the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and standards set by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).
• Is a self-starter and assertive in completing job tasks and duties.
• Proficient in computer and keyboard skills as well as an ability to learn and effectively use basic software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Degree or Area of Study: Finance, Accounting, or Business Management
• Year of Study: Junior or Senior Year in College

• Routine office environment; ADA-accessible building.
