Principal Duties and Responsibilities

General Summary: The Pastoral Care Coordinator oversees and ensures the provision of pastoral care to the Sisters of Mercy at Immanuel Village Assisted Living and Newport House.
The Pastoral Care Coordinator works to ensure the services provided for the Sisters are person-centered and offered in a spirit of hospitality that embodies the charism of the Sisters of Mercy and in a manner consistent with the mission and values of the Sisters of Mercy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Coordinates the spiritual care of sisters and provides direct spiritual care through pastoral, nurturing and supportive visits with the Sisters.
• Ensures the implementation of a program of pastoral care and spiritual enrichment, including a yearly retreat, prayer services for the liturgical seasons (ex. Advent, Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, Easter).
• Coordinates with local clergy to meet the sacramental needs such as the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick.
• Facilitates Sisters access to spiritual direction as requested and desired.
• Provides religious literature or spiritual resources for Sisters.
• Provides spiritual care to sisters who are hospitalized.
• Participates in the planning of the Wake and Funeral liturgical services upon the death of a sister.
• Participates in Care Planning, with a focus on spiritual components of care.
• Other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Competencies and Experience
• Experience in pastoral care.
• Strong leadership skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Confidentially and HIPPA knowledge
• Experience in areas of grief; advocating and caring for the elderly.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to approach people in a manner, which creates harmony and promotes cooperation; organizational ability; collaboration; leadership; creativity; sound judgment; confidentiality.
• Ability to handle stress associated with ministering to Sisters who experience pain and suffering, death and grief.
• Ability to work independent of supervision.
• Flexibility and ability to establish and rearrange priorities.
• Some evenings and weekends required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Understanding and appreciation of the traditions and culture associated with the Sisters of Mercy.
• Familiarity with the Catholic Church structures and teaching.
