Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Mercy High School seeks a candidate for The Vice President of Advancement to oversee the development, communications, marketing and admissions processes for the school. This person will have direct oversight and responsibility of growing revenue generating activity. She or he will manage the advancement team in leading a comprehensive program that attracts maximum gift support to meet the needs of the operating budget, capital expenditures and the endowment. This is a full time, 12-month position reporting directly to the President. The Vice President of Advancement is a key member of the President’s Leadership Team (PLT) and ensures best practices are in place that effectively and efficiently advance the mission, values and strategic goals of the school.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Duties and Responsibilities:
Promote and maintain personal relationships with donors, alumnae, parents and friends of Mercy in order to create and execute a comprehensive plan to financially support the school’s mission of inspiring young girls to become confident women of Mercy who embody faith, knowledge and compassionate service.
• Develop and execute long-term and short-term strategies to secure gifts from individuals, foundations and other entities in support of the school
• Oversee, support and strategize with the Director of Admissions to ensure that robust student recruitment and retention processes are in place
• Identify, cultivate, steward and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects who have the capacity to give $5,000 or more
• Manage a team of professionals who are responsible for varying aspects of the donor cycle and revenue stream including database, communications, special events, alumnae relations, marketing and admissions
• Provide counsel to the President and other advancement staff who are managing donor portfolios
• Grow both the annual giving and planned giving programs
• Expand the McAuley Scholars program through defined outreach methods
• Solicit gifts by working in conjunction with the school President, Board of Directors, faculty/staff members and key volunteers
• Provide oversight of the gift procedures to ensure effective collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgement and follow up on all major gifts
• Author grant proposals and/or assist in drafting such documents
• Knowledge of current tax laws, investments and varying philanthropic opportunities

Education and Experience
Requirements and Qualifications:
• Appreciates and understands the mission of Mercy High School and has the ability to articulate it throughout the community
• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent from accredited four-year college/university, ideally in journalism, communications or marketing with four to six years related experience. Master’s degree in similar field preferred
• Knowledge of ethical fundraising principles and proven adherence to the highest ethical standards
