Principal Duties and Responsibilities

St. Margaret Mary Parish is looking for a person who is excited to live and share their faith with our school and parish community. The Director of Youth Ministry, as part of the Parish Team, will work with youth and volunteers. The Director of Youth Ministry facilitates the ministries for the junior high and high school youth of the parish. The Director will provide opportunities to engage youth in growing their relationship with Jesus and living as a disciple, particularly through socials, service work, and spiritual growth experiences. Flexibility and adaptability to change are necessary functions of the job.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Assess the needs of young people and their families
• Develop and schedule youth activities and programming to build community and foster a relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church
• Invite and equip youth in the St. Margaret Mary parish to become leaders in the Church
• Foster and cultivate a youth community so they can encounter good guidance, be understood, feel a sense of belonging, think critically about faith, and have their pastoral needs met
• Ensure Safe Environment policies are upheld and carried out per the Archdiocese of Omaha
• Offer opportunities for prayer, faith discovery, and reflection involving youth in the sacramental life of the Church
• Coordinate service projects and promote the Gospel call to corporal works of mercy and justice through education and reflection
• Assist with the Confirmation preparation program and Confirmation retreat (given the age of our Confirmands is junior high)
• Communicate efficiently with teens, families, the greater parish community, and staff
• Care for youth and families in crisis and establish avenues for counseling, prevention programs, and pastoral care
• Work collaboratively with staff, particularly the Director of Religious Education, School Principal, and Pastoral Minister, to provide comprehensive ministry to youth and their families
• Manage the youth ministry budget in consultation with the Business Manager
• Pray often for the youth and leaders under the spiritual care of the Youth Minister

Education and Experience
• Practicing Roman Catholic in full Communion with the Catholic Church
• Holds a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Theology, Education, or other related fields, or the equivalent of necessary experience that would qualify the candidate for the job
• Experience working with junior high and high school age youth, preferably in a parish setting
• Relates well to both youth and adults
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable speaking to varying-sized groups capable of recruiting, developing, and managing teams
• Skilled with organization and implementation of plans
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, social media, and database applications
• Able to work flexible hours (Wednesday evenings and occasional weekends as scheduled)
• Safe Environment certification or willingness to go through training prior to employment
